Darren Huckerby, former Norwich City football star

The brief for this installation at the home of former Norwich City football star Darren Huckerby was to install our artificial grass in a striped Wembley effect across the entire garden. We were helped by the pile direction of the chosen grass

The grass was cut into metre strips, joined across lengths of up to 20 metres and installed around a circular feature. Every stripe had to be in perfect alignment the full distance on each pile direction change. The grass would be viewed mostly from a raised position from the house and decking so it was essential to get things right first time.

The only access to the larger of three areas of the garden was via the client’s home, so several tons of aggregates had to be barrowed through the property. We fitted a temporary floor and protected door frames and doors, and at the end of each day the floor was lifted and the entire area cleaned to return it to normal for the evening.

After the natural grass was removed and our base was installed and levelled we marked out and used string lines across the complete base to fit our metre wide cuts. The first few pieces were lined up and glued. We then sealed off the areas which were curing to protect the joints.

We repeated this process across the whole garden until the desired effect was achieved. Keeping the lines straight from trees to the circular patios was a particular challenge but the end result was beyond everyone’s expectations.
